Day 172

Updated: Jun 26, 2019

One of Constance’s and my favorite places to visit was Lambs Farm. Lambs Farm is a group of nonprofit businesses where individuals with differences work and live (LambsFarm.org). In addition to customers, it is frequented by field trips and birthday parties.

Constance and I enjoyed playing on their mini golf course. Otis liked their pet shop. We frequented their bakery for treats for ourselves and friends.

Our favorite thing to do there was to eat at the Lambs Farm Café with our friends and family. Constance loved the Sunday brunch buffet because it was filled with tasty items I never make for her. She loved to make herself a pile of bacon. She would dance in her seat as she jubilantly ate it. I spared her the ‘animals are our friends’ speech. I was just too happy to see her so blissed out.

After Constance passed, I was crestfallen at the thought of grief preventing me from ever going back to the café. I liked supporting their mission and wanted to remember all the good times we had there. I imagined the grief like an ever-present subliminal message playing in the background while I cried into my coffee.

To fortify myself, I waited for a day when I was feeling particularly lucky to be alive to go. I recognized several of the employees who were just as polite and attentive as ever. The meal and service were fantastic. The Lambs Farm Café is really one of the best restaurants in Chicago. Of course, it would have been better with Constance but I was grateful to be strong enough to go and remember all of the good times there with the Woos, Cummings, Gatelys, etc. I feel so lucky to have so many marvelous memories and unbelievable friends.
