After a meeting today, a colleague told me they have never met a person who has ever had a worse year. He listed it as: “Loss of family, loss of home, loss of your dog, and loss of… everything else.”

I replied, “Yeah, I know. It is a bummer.”

He hugged me and said, “No one has had a worse year and no one could have handled it better than you did. I watched the video of the Cherry dedication today and I was so proud of you.”

We exchanged another hug.

I certainly don’t know anyone who has ever had a worse year… excluding the Holocaust and other war crimes. Sometimes, I feel as if simply waking up every morning is an astounding feat for which I and everyone I know marvels.
