I’ve been paying close attention to memorial tattoos. I met a cashier with a detailed tattoo of a child’s face with angel wings behind it. I complimented her on the beautiful artwork and asked if it was her child. She said yes. I could tell from the image and her facial expression that she didn’t want to get into with me at work, so I didn’t inquire further. Instead, I said, “I thought about getting ink in memory of my late daughter too. Then I thought, well I have the cesarian scar, and that is one of a kind, and I got it on the day I met my daughter, so that’s probably the best thing.” The cashier laughed. I’ve noticed that people find me the funniest when they think I’m kidding. A smile is a fantastic thing to inspire.
